Jatropha Curcas, also known as Barbados Nut or Hedge Castor Oil Plant. This is another plant from the Euphorbiaceae family. In Nigeria, it is known as ‘ewe Lapalapa’ by the Yorubas. It is a plant that is widely used for its health benefits. It is often used in the preparation of herbs, particularly in rural areas. This plant becomes wonderful and great because it can be used in various ways.
Scientists have studied Jatropha tanjorensis to be rich in antioxidant nutrients like phosphorus, selenium, zinc, vitamin C and vitamin E. It contains anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-oxidant, anti-diarrheal, anti-bacterial properties.
To Treat Constipation
Jatropha plant can be used to ease digestion and to ease passing of stool from the body. This is a good reason it’s used as a cure for constipation and other digestion complications. The leaves can be chewed raw to stimulate the digestion process, making it easier to pass out waste.
It is also used to cure toxic gas from the intestines. One can do this by placing the leaves on a flamy fire. Do not allow it to burn, after it is hot enough, rub some coconut oil on the leaves and place them on the stomach. During the moment, the gaseous substances will begin to dissipate peacemeal.
To Treat Fever
One of the wonders of this plant is to treat fevers, especially for children by placing some of the leaves on the forehead of the infected child and their fever would be relieved in shaa Allah. It works due to the fact, that jatropha leaves contain natural anti-oxide and cold sensations that would bring about relief without any side effects.
To Treat Skin Irritation
Jatropha leaves can also be used to treat skin irritations. This is because it contains anti-inflammatory properties and anti-bacterial, making them very effective against certain skin conditions, like eczema, acne, ringworm, phlegm, etc by crushing the leaves to make paste, then place or apply it on the areas affected until the juice from it is dried. It is also used to treat scratches and blisters, preventing infections like ulcers.
To Treat or Relieve Pains
It is effectively used as pain relief due to its analgesic properties. This would be effective against conditions like rheumatism, arthritis, and other pains related to the joints and other parts of the body, by squeezing the leaves or crush and soak it as herbs then drink.
To Ease Delivery
Jatropha leaves are traditionally used by the pregnant women close to labour. Jatropha leaves are given to them to chew as it was thought to help them ease the delivery process. Although there is no evidence of this fact to this day, this has not stopped the practice in anyway.
To treat diseases related to dental Health
Jatropha surprisingly works for dental health by using the shrub, stem or the twig as a toothbrush. This is very effective against toothache, likewise the paste from the bark is used to treat swelling of the gums, chewing the leaves also helps to treat pyorrhea.
To Treat Spiritual Attack
Jatropha leaves are highly effective to destroy spiritual attacks of any type. It can be taken to exorcise jinns (devils) out of the body. Take some leaves from the Jatropha (both white and red), pound them and soak them in water, after 2-3 days sieve out of the water, recite ayaatu al-ruqyah into it, then drink and bathe with it for a week or more. In shaa Allah, the charms will be destroyed.
In addition to it health benefits (Jatropha tanjorensis), contains antidiabetic properties.
In a medical study, it is reported that Jatropha tanjorensis has antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
